POQUITA FE

Berta and José Ramón are just trying to live a quiet life, but their day-to-day is filled with interference: meddling relatives, annoying neighbors, coworkers, and a countless number of people who never give them a break. In the midst of all this noise, they simply try to keep going.

For the award-winning and acclaimed Movistar+ series, created by Pepón Montero and Juan Maidagán —with Pepón also directing— I was given the challenging task of writing a ranchera for episode no. 10. The lyrics, co-written with Raúl Cimas (who stars in the series as José Ramón), had to touch on the couple’s possible breakup, while hinting that there’s still hope for them. They still love each other, despite everything going on around them. The result is “Tú eres mi estrella del Norte”, performed by Álvaro Corcuera (vocals, requinto jarocho, and guitar) and Luis Soler on trumpet.

In the June episode (no. 6), José Ramón’s mother gets stuck in an elevator with a group of strangers. Among them is the “space singer,” who happens to be carrying a guitar. Things heat up, and they end up singing a few classics together. The production, recording, and mixing of the songs were done at Fantompower, under my supervision, with help from Luis Regidor Paín, who also arranged the music.
