POQUITA FE

The second season of Poquita Fe begins with Berta and José Ramón forced to move temporarily into her parents’ house after losing their apartment. Things become even more chaotic when Berta’s sister also moves in, pushing the couple’s patience and relationship into increasingly absurd and hilarious situations.

Berta and José Ramón try to live a quiet life, but their everyday routine is constantly disrupted by intrusive relatives, annoying neighbors, co-workers, and an endless stream of people who never give them a break. Amid all the noise, they simply try to keep going.

For the award-winning Movistar+ series, created by Pepón Montero and Juan Maidagán, Pepón asked me to write a ranchera for episode 10. The lyrics, co-written with Raúl Cimas, had to capture the possible breakup of the couple while making clear that, despite all the chaos surrounding them, they still loved each other. The result was “Tú eres mi estrella del Norte”, performed by Álvaro Corcuera and Luis Soler.

For this second season, Pepón Montero also commissioned me to create a reinterpretation of “Don’t Leave Me This Way” by The Communards. The sequence was built around a brilliant idea: José Ramón dreams that Berta is out partying… while, at the same time, it is actually happening. Nightmare and reality begin to blur together, and music became the key tool for constantly playing between diegetic and non-diegetic sound. We transformed coughs, snores, breathing, and bodily noises into rhythmic and instrumental elements within the song itself, creating a delirious and darkly funny piece that reinforces the surreal and uncomfortable tone of the scene.
